Pre-Candidacy Exams are Done!
Congratulations are in order for our four second year graduate students! Stewart, Pedro, Monir, and Rabin all passed their pre-candidacy departmental exams this year and we are incredibly proud of them! This exam entails writing an NIH- or NSF-style proposal over the work they plan on pursuing throughout grad school, followed by a 45 minute departmental seminar defending that proposal. Each one of our lab members did an outstanding job presenting their research ideas, answering questions, and showcasing the hard work they have put into their projects thus far. Below are some action shots from their exams as well as their talk titles. We cannot wait to see them continue to improve as scientists as they move further through this program. Sic ’em y’all!
Stewart’s exam was titled “Studying Behavior of Proteins in Electrospray Droplets via Molecular Dynamics” and was presented on May 6th.
Pedro’s exam was titled “Developing Methods for Elucidation of Glycoprotein Structure and Dynamics” and was also presented on May 6th.
Monir’s exam was titled “Investigation of Protein Unfolding Pathways using Native Mass Spectrometry, Complemented by Solution-phase Techniques” and was presented on May 18th.
Rabin’s exam was titled “Identifying and Quantifying Proteomes in Cancer Cells Using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry” and was presented on May 19th.
