On September 3rd, Elyssia Gallagher was recognized and awarded the “Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor In STEM” award from Baylor University’s Graduate School. This award highlights contributions to graduate education, scholarly mentorship, teaching excellence, and administrative leadership. Baylor University’s Graduate School Dean Michael E. Young stated that “the recipients of these inaugural awards reflect the strength and distinction of graduate education at Baylor. Their dedication to mentorship, teaching, scholarship, and leadership enriches the graduate experience and prepares students to make meaningful contributions in their professions and communities."

Furthermore, her mentoring extends beyond her students’ time at Baylor. She provides continued guidance as many of her former students move into their second or third position post-graduation.”

“Dr. Elyssia Gallagher has mentored 17 Ph.D. students since 2015, fostering an inclusive, empowering lab culture where students develop into independent scientists. Her doctoral graduates have co-authored 24 peer-reviewed publications with her—averaging 4.6 publications per student—earning prestigious honors such as the ACS Editor’s Choice Award and the Ron Hites Award. Dr. Gallagher conducts innovative summer scientific writing book clubs and manuscript workshops, provides comprehensive career development, and actively advocates for women in STEM through national scientific societies. Her alumni have successfully transitioned into high-impact careers across academia, industry leaders like Amgen and Bristol Myers Squibb, and government agencies including the FDA.”
